This neighborhood in San Fernando Valley was originally founded back in 1927 and a portion of the neighborhood is actually in the Santa Monica Mountains which gives Sherman Oaks a lower population density than other places in Los Angeles. The neighborhood is surrounded by Studio City to the east, Van Nuys to the north, Encino to the west, and Bel Air and Beverly Hills to the south. It is home to approximately 55,000 residents and about 25,000 households.

Sherman Oaks has a lot of shopping options. The Sherman Oaks Galleria, famous for its role in the 1982 movie “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”, has high-end fashion stores, bistros, and the ArcLight Movie Theater. This is an open-air setting perfect for strolling on a Sunday afternoon.

Along Ventura Boulevard you’ll find quirky shops, high-end boutiques, coffee shops, little restaurants and a few office buildings. Ventura Blvd. stretches clear across San Fernando Valley so there’s always places to explore.

The Westfield Fashion Square right next to Sherman Oaks Mall features its anchor stores of Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s as well as multiple restaurants, shops, jewelry stores, salons, boutiques, and just about every type of retail you can imagine.

The Sherman Oaks Antique Mall located just south of Westfield offers over 100 unique dealers selling vintage decor, furniture, jewelry and more.

There are dozens of places to eat in Sherman Oaks and if you can’t find anything you love, you’re no more than 5 to 10 minutes from just about every type of cuisine you could possibly imagine. Check out Mendocino Farms for its delicious pork belly Bahn mi, or visit Woodman and Public School 818 for fantastic craft breweries and complementary international dishes.

Ventura Boulevard is the place you want to be for the best in restaurants. From taverns and bistros, to high-end dining establishments and trendy coffee shops, there’s something for every appetite and budget along Ventura Blvd. in the heart of Sherman Oaks.

Sherman Oaks Schools

Residents are part of the Los Angeles County unified school system and residents have access to the Chandler elementary school, the Seventh Street elementary school, the Millikan middle school, and the grand senior high school, but there are multiple charter schools and private schools throughout Sherman Oaks including Everest Value for grades kindergarten through eighth grade, Dixie Canyon community charter school, one of the highest-rated in the area, and the Aspire Pacific Academy, ideal for students achieving college preparation. The Van Nuys high school, Van Nuys middle school, and Independence Continuation school are also close to Sherman Oaks.

Sherman Oaks Parks and Recreation

There are multiple parks in and around Sherman Oaks, the largest being the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area with sports facilities, picnic spots, miles of trails, preserve areas, Japanese gardens, and ponds.

The Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Recreation Center is one of the largest in the city featuring a swimming pool, athletic fields, and sports courts. There are other neighborhood parks spread throughout the community including the Deervale Stone Canyon Park, Haseltine Park, Lake Balboa Park, Encino Park, and the Valley Glen Community Park.
